Happy Memorial Day!

I feel like I appreciate three-day weekends a lot more now that I have a wife. I mean, not that they were particularly unenjoyable as a single man, but there's just something about spending all seventy two of those hours with the most incredible girl in the world that makes it that much better, you know?

Needless to say, this Memorial Day weekend has been the best one of my life so far. It started out on Friday with quite possibly the coolest wedding reception ever held. Most definitely the coolest we've ever been to. That was the general consensus among the nine of us who went together, especially the two-and-a-half-year-old twins and their one-year-old brother. We all piled into a Honda Pilot (please don't bother looking up how many seats it has) and drove up to Salt Lake where Becky's cousin Damian and his brand new bride Meili had rented out a carnival for the night! Check it out...

(But, more importantly, check out Becky's new haircut. Isn't she beautiful?)

First stop: the carousel. Because let's be honest, who doesn't love riding mechanical horses around in a circle? You should have seen our one-year-old nephew's face. He was loving it. Not quite sure why Becky's hair came out bright red in this picture, but it looks pretty cool.

So the original idea was to get food next (they had a taco truck!), but we decided to go on the swings next. You know, the giant mechanical contraption that swings you around in circles? Yeah, those swings. Turns out, it was a really good idea to go before we ate. Not gonna lie, that thing was intense. We may or may not have gotten off light-headed and thinking that just maybe we're a little too old for those.

And, of course, the carnival couldn't have been complete without the ferris wheel. Did we kiss at the top? Yes. Did anyone see us? No. Shhh, don't tell...

Like I said, coolest wedding reception ever. Not one that we would have chosen for ourselves (we couldn't have pulled it off like they did), but definitely one that we wouldn't have missed. Talk about a good kickoff to the weekend!

Saturday. Our first of many hikes together. Believe it or not, I had never hiked up to the Y. It was a beautiful day (Hey, I like overcast weather sometimes, okay?), and we had it all to ourselves! The view of Provo was incredible.

Sunday. We were asked to speak in Sacrament Meeting! We hadn't actually been to our ward yet after being out of town and/or visiting family for three weeks, so we think the Bishopric was really just trying to help who they assumed was a less-active couple of newlyweds to get to church.

Monday. There's really no better way to celebrate Memorial Day than a good-old-fashioned family barbecue. Okay, so I don't actually know how old-fashioned the family barbecue is, but that's beside the point. Burgers, hot dogs, only-slightly-overcooked chicken wings (Becky's cousin referred to them as "cancer"), and a whole lot of patriotism.

After the barbecue, we went for a quick dip. Today was quite the the scorcher, and Barbara was nice enough to share her pool with us. Well, her community pool. But she used her key. So that's really nice of her. Good news - Becky got a tan and I didn't get burned.

We visited Becky's grandparents' grave. Her grandfather was a colonel in the Air Force. We're so grateful for all of those who sacrifice so much on our behalf to give us the blessings of freedom.

All in all, it was a pretty great holiday. We can't wait for the next one!

We're Married.

One month ago today we got married. We're celebrating by starting a blog.
You're welcome.
Here is one picture for every hundred that was taken....
